5 Home Remedies to Help Deal With Your Cold
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In raining seasons, the number of people with runny nose increases rapidly because of the cold weather, which is also a conducive environment for the microorganisms that causes cold to be effective.

However, running nose can easily be stopped with home remedies. If you prefer using natural remedies, there are plenty of options that can help.

Here are the following home treatments to help quickly deal with your cold:

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking fluids and staying hydrated when dealing with a runny nose can be helpful if you also have symptoms of nasal congestion, because it ensures that mucus in your sinuses thins out to a runny consistency and is easy for you to expel, than the thick and sticky, which congests the nose even further.

2. Hot Tea

Hot beverages like tea may sometimes be helpful because of their heat and steam, which helps open and decongest airways.

Certain herbal teas may contain anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties, such as chamomile, ginger, mint, or nettle that can help soothe a sore throat and a running nose.

3. Facial Steam

Inhaling hot steam has proven several times to help treat a runny nose. Studies have shown that this is quite effective, as it helps reduce illness recovery time by about one week compared to no steam inhalation at all.

4. Hot shower

Just like a hot tea or facial steam, a hot shower can help alleviate a runny and stuffy nose.

Place your face and sinuses directly in the steam and spray of the shower for best results.

5. Eating Spicy Foods

Spicy foods can make a runny nose worse. However, if you’re also having symptoms of nasal congestion, eating spicy foods can possibly help. If you can tolerate quite a bit of heat in your food, give it a try.

Hot spices like cayenne pepper, ghost pepper, habanero, wasabi, horseradish, or ginger are great options. These spices, while also creating a feeling of heat when eaten, dilate passageways in the body and can relieve sinus issues.

However, note that none of these remedies are designed to actually cure or completely get rid of the underlying causes of runny noses, but these approaches will only give you relief. Ensure you seek more direct treatment if you’re experiencing colds, viruses, and allergies.
