The United Kingdom, UK, has restricted 11 African countries from entering into England.
This is in an attempt to prevent the spread of a new COVID-19 variant already identified in South Africa.
The travel ban disclosed in a statement titled, ‘Travel restrictions update: South Africa ban extended, Israel (and Jerusalem)’ on the UK’s government website.
“Entry into England will be banned to those who have travelled from or through any southern African country in the last 10 days”, the statement read in parts.
The restriction, which will be in place for two weeks, will take effect on Saturday.
The following are the countries currently restricted;
- Namibia,
- Zimbabwe,
- Botswana,
- Eswatini,
- Zambia,
- Malawi,
- Lesotho,
- Mozambique,
- Angola,
- Seychelles and
- Mauritius.
