A teacher at Bethel Baptist High School in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State, identified as Emmanuel Paul, has given a report on the recent abduction of students of the school in the early hours of Monday, 5th July 2021.
Gunmen on Monday morning were reported to have attacked the Baptist school, located at Damishi town of Chikun Local Government Area in Kaduna State, taking away unconfirmed number of students.
However, during an interview with news agency, AFP, a teacher at the school, Emmanuel Paul, told the media that the bandits took away 165 students.
“The kidnappers took away 140 students, only 25 students escaped. We still have no idea where the students were taken,” Emmanuel said.
Also confirming that some of the students have returned, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalije in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that No fewer than 17 kidnapped students of the school have returned.
NAN quoted Police PRO Jalije as saying “17 of the students have been rescued.”
Jaliye said that the exact number of students abducted by the bandits had yet to be ascertained, adding that details would be made public in due course.
“Tactical police teams went after the kidnappers,” he added. “We are still on the rescue mission.”
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna Chapter, Rev. John Hayab, told NAN that as of Friday, there were 180 boarding students in the school.
Hayab, who is also a member of the Baptist Church, said that so far, 26 students had returned and he was hopeful that more would escape from the bandits
The attackers were said to have scaled a fence to break into the School in Kaduna state in the early hours of Monday.
Recall that TheNewsBeam reported that gunmen launched coordinated attacks on both Bethel Baptist secondary school and Faith Academy, a school owned by the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedpo.
Unfortunately, many students of Bethel secondary school in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State were abducted, while the attack on Faith Academy was repelled by soldiers.
