Dana Elaine Owens, globally known as Queen Latifah, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards 2021 last night for her amazing contributions to the entertainment industry.
Queen Latifah got emotional while reflecting on her career during the acceptance speech of her Lifetime Achievement Award.
She expressed her gratitude to her siblings and friends who supported throughout her career. She said: “I’m so extremely moved, I don’t even know what to say.”
“My siblings, my best friends—who ride or die with me. Whether my face is on the dirt or flying in the sky, they know me and they are there for me.”
She also appreciated BET for supporting talented and rising stars when other platforms failed to be of help.
“When we couldn’t get played on the radio and other places, we couldn’t get our videos played in other places, there was BET that allowed us to be in our fullness, and to shine to this night right now, right here,” she said.
Speaking on the theme of the night: “Year of the Black Woman,” Queen Latifah expressed that she had “always celebrated the woman because she was raised by a strong Black woman, raised by a father who loves women.”
“We can’t live without each other. I wanted to celebrate because I know, together, we stand stronger than when we tear each other apart. I’ve seen enough of that. So respect to all the females on the stage tonight.”
