Lagos State Government have indefinitely suspended the activities of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in some parts of Lagos Island.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka announced the suspension at a stakeholders meeting at Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
This indicates that the activities of the union members at Eyin Eyo, Church Street and Idumota Bridge have become illegal.
According to Fayinka, the move is in a bid to reduce the prevalent acts of violence being witnessed in the state.
The NURTW, Central Business District, CBD, and Lagos State Market Women Association (Iya Oloja General and Iya Oloja of Lagos Island) members also attended this meeting.
He further disclosed that, “State security operatives are hereby put on red alert to ensure safety and security of lives and properties in Lagos Island and environs”, Fayinka stated.
