The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the immediate cancellation of the appointment process of the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University.
According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, a fresh process is to start immediately and run for the next forty-five days
The immediate cancellation of the process was necessary due to the series of petitions that arose from the selection process.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was inundated with petitions arising from the selection process of the Vice Chancellor by the Governing Council.
After a thorough evaluation and investigation of the various complaints, Mr. Governor, in his capacity as the Visitor to the University ordered the cancellation of the process,” Akosile stated.
The Governor has also directed the outgoing VC, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun to convene an emergency Senate meeting to appoint an Acting Vice Chancellor from Monday January 11, 2021.
According to the statement, the appointed Acting VC must not be a candidate in the ongoing selection process.
Also, the Senate has been directed to appoint a temporary chairman to oversee the conduct of the election of the Acting Vice Chancellor.
“The Governor further directed that, the Senate should select among its members, a protem chairman to superintend the meeting and conduct of election of Acting Vice Chancellor.”
