… Directs President to post the ambassadors to neighboring countries…
Despite protest from the Minority in the Senate, the house confirmed the immediate past Chief of Army Staff , Lt- Gen Yusuf Tukur Buratai and other former Service Chiefs as Non- Career Ambassador designates.
The report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, which states that the Service Chiefs be considered for the Appointment was condemned by the Minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
According to the Minority leader, a member of the committee has petitioned that the Service Chiefs cannot be confirmed on the basis that they were formerly declared incapable for their inability to handle the insecurity in the nation.
According to Abaribe, the petitioner had raised it that the Senate for integrity sake cannot confirm them against the backdrop that the Senate had said repeatedly in its resolutions that the former Service Chiefs should be sacked because of continued insecurity challenges in the country.
The Senate President, in his reaction to this, said the appointment was on a different assignment. He further ruled the Minority leader out of order as he remained persistent.
The Senate thereafter resolved to the Committee of the whole and confirmed the former Service Chiefs as Ambassador Designates.
The confirmed Ambassadorial Nominees are General Abayomi Olonisakin (Rtd); Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (Rtd); Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar(Rtd); and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (Rtd).
