Nigerians have begun to ask questions and express concerns over the unfortunate incident that killed the second in command of the Federation’s Military formation, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 top aides.
Although, information gathered connected the cause of the plane crash to the sudden change in the climatic condition in Kaduna State as at the time of touching the ground. Concerns about why the weather forecast was not well calculated and why there was no parachute in the plane.
However, the Nigerian Armed Force is silent on its plan to investigate the cause of the crash. According to the statement signed by Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, only the details of the sad incidents and the burial arrangements will be communicated soon.
Popular writer and activist, Ayo Sogunro wrote on his Twitter handle: “From bombing IDP camps to bombing their own soldiers, from a pilot being killed in a freak car accident to the Chief of Army Staff and others dying in a plane crash, there is a lot of dysfunction in the Nigerian military. An urgent intervention is needed.”
@Kingalphashaaba said: “The rate of Plane crashes in this country is so alarming. It rained heavily together with a wind storm as at the time the plane was about to land in Kaduna. But I believe they should have forecast the weather from Abuja before taking off.”
Olajide Precious said proper investigation should be made to unravel the brains behind the crash. “Please guys let’s be guarded, we know in actual fact that there are unscrupulous elements in every establishment, but really the death of the Army Chief is shocking, proper investigation is highly needed. But let’s be calm”
Also, the incident has been linked with other unfortunate incidents in the military that occured in recent weeks.
“An unidentified person backed up a car at Airforce base and killed Arotile, a helicopter fighter, who was killing Boko terrorists without mercy. A Nig jet fighter mistakenly killed Nig soldiers who’re killing BH during an air raid. Now, the Chief of Army staff was killed in a crash! Ìlú Jogbo,” @OtunMuri said.
Ayinde Bolaji said: “It was publicised two days ago that Shekau is dead and what follows immediately after is the death is Attahairu’s death. I wonder if it isn’t the high cabals being angry that their man is dead, that is if he is truly dead… I also think it is a thread as most of our top military officers have been dieing by air crash.Well I hope its not as it is in my mind. ☹️”
