A Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba has granted one Mr Ben Emmanuel a bail of N500,000 and adjourned the case till November 26, 2020, for the commencement of full trial after assaulting a LASTMA officer.
According to report, the incident occurred on Sunday, 8th November 2020 at Jakande Junction, Lekki when Mr Ismaila Lukman, the LASTMA officer was carrying out his assigned official duty. It was reported that Ben wasn’t satisfied with the way the LASTMA officer was controlling the traffic on that day, and in turn took position on the road to start controlling the traffic. In the bid to take full control of controlling the traffic, a fight ensued which led to Ben assaulting and inflicting injuries on Ismaila Lukman in the company of some other persons.
The Lagos State Government further took up the case and arraigned Ben Emmanuel before a Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba for assaulting a LASTMA officer.
As disclosed on the official twitter handle page of The Lagos State Government, a statement signed by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) said that “Ben Emmanuel, in the company of some persons now at large, allegedly assaulted and inflicted injuries on Ismaila Lukman, a LASTMA officer.”
The statement added that “the Magistrate Court, however, granted Ben Emmanuel bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties and adjourned the case till November 26, 2020, for the commencement of full trial.”
Justice Onigbanjo also warned recalcitrant members of the public to stop the harassment of officials of the State Government carrying out their lawful duties. He also expressed the determination of the State government to ensure that the accused is prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
