A commercial motorcyclist (okada rider) identified as Ugochukwu Unadumene has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a female corps member on May 3rd, 2018 in Niger State.
According to reports, the motorcyclist who is from Agaie in Niger State carried out the crime while he was conveying the victim along Lapia-Agaie road where he assaulted and raped her in a forest.
However upon investigation, Ugochukwu was apprehended by the Niger State Police command and filed two charges before the High court.
The final verdict which was passed by the presiding Judge sitting at High Court in Minna on 22nd June, 2021, sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment without the option of fine for the offence of voluntary causing hurt without provocation. And life imprisonment without option of fine for rape.
In addition, the court stated that the sentences are to run concurrently.
