EndSARS: Bolanle Ninalowo, others Blast Oba of Lagos for hoarding $2m, N17m
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

* Call on EFCC to probe him

Nollywood artist, Bolanle Ninalowo and some Nigerians on Twitter blast the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, for saying that $2 million and N17 million were stolen from his palace during the crisis that erupted after the #EndSARS protest.

Recall that the Oba Palace was attacked and some property destroyed during the crisis, his staff of office was also stolen.

Social media users have expressed their dissatisfaction about the monarch’s outburst and also call on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to probe him.

Here are some of the reaction.

Popular Nollywood Artist, Bolanle Ninalowo said: “It’s baffling how belittling these people have termed the citizens. $2m worth of cash buried in someone’s compound and the person has the guts to say it publicly??? The elites vs the masses🤧 #EndSARS”

@ImportedAlhaji also tweeted that “the Oba of Lagos has accused #EndSARS protesters of stealing his $2million and N17million during protest. Please where did he get that money and when Efcc going to call him in for questioning him? Or Palace don turn to bank these days? E be like we are mad in this country😂😂

@UNCLE_AJALA said “The Oba of Lagos says that $2 million and N17million were stolen when hoodlums attacked his palace during the last #EndSARS protest. He should be telling EFCC what he was doing with that amount & how he got the $2m after this revelation, but this is Nigeria, even bandits dey ball

Also, @ayemojubar said: “BREAKING: #EndSARS protesters stole $2m, N17m from my palace – Oba of Lagos, Akiolu. Where did a king get $2m and N17m? How about the money-filled casket? EFCC your attention is needed.”

@prehfred said the EndSARS protesters should not be held responsible, he tweeted that “Not the #EndSars protesters but the hoodlums sent by the State stole your money. By the way, why would a paramount ruler keep $2m at home and not in the bank? Even N17m cash is too much to be kept at home, Your Majesty”

@PDemiluyi tweeted that “This is one of the reasons kings are not respected in Yoruba land.. they’ve traded their respects for political contracts, road maintenance as if they’re FARMA.. and now see a whole king telling lies? What does he have now to teach his subjects? I pity this tribe.”

@Iam_ChisomLucky also tweeted: “What is $2million doing in an oba palace? The Government only pay traditional rulers 150k in here in Enugu, as an Oba I dey sure say his official salary no fit pass 500k. $2million is N760,000,000. He should be probe for money laundering!”
