#EndSARS: 4m Youths to get free skills training under N175bn CACOVID program

The Private sector-led Coalition Against COVID-19, CACOVID has set aside N175 billion to organize various empowerment programs that will facilitate the acquisition of skills for 4 million Nigerian youths over the next 5 years.
This disclosure was made by CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, in a press briefing today, November 25, 2020.

CACOVID also posit that unemployment was the one of the drivers of the unrest witnessed after the protests.

“Our preliminary analysis indicates that unemployment particularly amongst the youth was a critical factor behind the unrest”.

Students will be trained on craft work, plumbing, masonry , carpentry, and other artisanal related skills for which sufficient demand exist in Nigeria.

Emefiele further revealed that the group devoted N28.7 billion for the provision of food palliatives for 1.7 million household and 8 million vulnerable Nigerians.

CACOVID is a Private Sector task force in partnership with the Federal Government, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) with the sole aim of combating Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The coalition has also pledged to renovate all 44 Police stations that were destroyed during the crisis that followed the End SARS protests last month and will be spending a total of N100 billion to purchase new equipment for the Police.

It has been also been revealed that the group has received a sum of N39.646 billion and has
spent a total of N43.272 billion so far.

“CACOVID requested and indeed received an outpouring of support from over 200 well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations, who provided in kind donations, as well as funds to the tune of N39,646,100,039.00 billion in support of the fight against COVID-19″

“On the expenditure side, the CACOVID has far incurred expenditure , in the sum of N43,272,562,831 on the acquisition of , not only medical equipment and supplies , but also Food palliatives for the vulnerable amongst us”

CACOVID, however, appeals to more organisations in the private sector for more support so as to achieve these efforts and secure the nation.
