The Federal Government (FG) through the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has announced its interest in the use of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) to make the exploration and production of oil safer.
Disclosing this in a statement today on the Department’s official website, it stated that the DPR is set to begin the implementation of Regulatory Guidelines of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials in the Petroleum industry.
The Director/CEO of DPR, Sarki Auwalu stated this when he received the report on the training workshop on NORM organised for staff of the Department in conjunction with Quantized Solutions limited.
He said that the training workshop was designed to equip staff with the requisite skills needed to ensure full industry compliance with the regulatory guidelines for the management of NORM.
He also said that the Department will continue to implement robust strategic initiatives to make the exploration and production of oil safer and more environmentally friendly.
The Managing Director of Quantized Solutions Limited, Professor Shamsideen Elegba commended the Department for this bold step which will bring value to oil and gas assets.
