The Federal Government has unveiled the Nigeria @60 Independence Postage Stamps done by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
This is in commemoration of the country’s diamond independence anniversary which was held on October 1, 2020.
The unveiling and launching of the postage stamp was done by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami.
The Minister who was appointed by President Muhammad Buhari, as the Chairman of the Presidential Sub-committee on Diamond, Innovation and Change said the postage stamp was the last policy by the committee scheduled to be achieved in commemoration of the event.
He said:
“Part of the policies of the committee I served or I chaired, came up with the idea of establishing a stamp in order to be part and parcel of the celebration of our diamond jubilee and reflection as citizens of this great country, Nigeria. We came up with around 11 items and I think this is the final one to be executed as part of our celebration of our 60th anniversary of our nation.
“I am glad that we are here today to unveil and launch the stamp. However, the stamp has been produced since but due to some constraints we couldn’t converge here for the celebration. It is always better late than never, because of this we are here to celebrate and not only to celebrate but to reflect and appreciate the beauty of our diversity as a country.”
