Some Nigerians have taken to the street of Twitter to express outrage, following the approval to reopen Lekki Tollgate by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, set up to investigate the October 2020 Lekki shooting incident.
After several weeks of investigation and plea from the Lekki Concession Company, the nine-man panel returned the control of the tollgate to the operators, on Saturday, 6th of February, 2021.
Receiving this news, many Nigerians have taken to Twitter to protest, saying, those who carried out the alleged shooting of innocent citizens must face the law before Lekki tollgate can be reopened.
As at Monday, 8th of February, 2021, #OccupyLekkiTollGate is the number 1 trending hashtag on Twitter, and is said to be another wave of protest against injustice and government’s silence over the Lekki shootings.
Meanwhile, a physical protest has been scheduled to kick off on Saturday,13th February 2021, according to Twitter sources.
