The union’s president, Emmanuel Osodeke disclosed at a press conference held at the University of Lagos said: “NEC directs all members and branches of our union throughout the Nigerian federation not to recognize, accord or treat Dr. Isah Ali Ibrahim Pantami as a professor of cybersecurity under any guise”.
The Union also threatened to sanction FUTO management over the approval since he is still in Federal Government’s active service as a minister.

However, a senior management worker of the institution who spoke on a condition of anonymity said “Just like ASUU does not tell the university council and its Senate who to promote, it cannot tell them the criteria for promoting somebody to rank of professor. In law, you cannot withdraw what you don’t have. ASUU does not regulate appointments and promotions. Some of these things are derived from NUC guidelines, and every university sets up its standard”.
