Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has cancelled the “Walk for peace” peace over growing concerns for the spread of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

Recall that The News Beam had earlier reported that the Governor, while reacting to the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry report, had called for a march to ‘heal’ the land, inviting members of the public and some major #EndSARS campaigners.

The Governor, while speaking at a press briefing, announced that plans for the march have currently been shelved in a bid to cushion the spread of Coronavirus.

“Since my last address to you on Tuesday 30, November 2021, during which I expressed a desire to lead a walk for peace, following the outcome of the work of the judicial panel on restitution for victims of SARS-related abuses and other matters, I have been inundated with deep expressions of solidarity from various groups and people declaring their readiness to join me on the symbolic walk,” he said.

“When the unseen enemy called COVID-19 began to ravage the world and indeed our nation, I assumed the role of the incident commander in our quest to protect the lives of our people. We subjected ourselves to the dictates of science.

Another social media user, Musediq Alogba said, “What about money paid to some Lasu students to buy their conscience? Will they refund Abi na national cake and refund is not needed?”

Anyother with the username, @onedayfor theowner also said “They should continue making a mockery of themselves, and to all those, especially our twitter SANs, who wanted to walk this walk of shame, we are also waiting for your long epistles, maybe you need to quote Pythagoras and Nastradamus this time around”

Demola of Lagos wrote, “Peace walk wey Segalink don polish shoes for”.

“There’s no Omicron involved in the cancellation, the so-called peace walk was always dead on arrival. The major participants who would’ve given the walk the credibility he so seeks turned down the invite”, Tom also said.

Komrade Konade said, “He’s really pained. Message was tactfully delivered“.
