SONG REVIEW: How Bella Shmurda's 'World' Attacks Homosexuality, Hypocrisy
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter
By Waliu Adeyeri

Nigeria’s fast-rising afro-beat star has attacked some global norms in the society with his latest song titled “World.”

The song which was released today, Friday, attacks some global issues which according to Bella Shmurda are ungodly, hypocritical acts and revelation of the end time.

Opening the song with a thoughtful chorus that human beings are responsible for their own doom.

“If I ever lie to the world
I can never lie to myself
If I ever loose to the world
I can never loose to myself…”

With these lines, Bella tells his listeners that one can never hide from his/her shadow, the world may be fooled but you cannot fool yourself. This preaches the need to be honest to oneself.

Furthermore, he highlights some societal issues such as homosexuality, hypocrisy, and sexual abuses which the propagators might eventually come after him through any means available.

He says:

“Man marry men, woman marry woman
Nobody fear God only scared of death
Pastor using black power
Father making love to his daughter
See people going to church of Satan
Rich man worshipping Lucifer”

A connotative study of these lines reveals that the singer is ridiculing the propagators who do “not fear God again, but rather fear death,” hence, they can do anything at any cost to stay alive.

Also, In the song, Bella uses the line “prophesy coming to pass” to allude to the religious belief that all the happenings in the society are revelation of the end time.

With this thought-provoking masterpiece, we cannot but say that, the Dangbana icon is changing the narratives of today’s Afro-beat. We look forward to more of this.
