A military aircraft, Beachcraft 350, conveying the Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and his aide, reportedly crashed on Friday evening.
This was confirmed in a statement by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information on Twitter. He said:
“An air crash involving a Nigeruan Air Force aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon.”
Reports gathered have revealed that the Chief of Army Staff and wife are on their way to commission a project in Kaduna State before the unfortunate event.
Identities of other military personnel on board have not been disclosed, but, usually, the Chief of Army Staff travels with the the Acting Chief of Military Intelligence, the Acting Provost Marshall and his Chief of Staff as well as his BGs made up of elements of Military Intelligence, Military Police and Army Special Forces.
Also, the exact cause of the crash has not been officially reported by the NIgerian Air Force. Information gathered shows that the sudden change of the weather condition may be responsible for the crash.
Attahiru was appointed Chief of Army Staff on January 26, 2021.
Born on 10th August 1966 in Doka, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Kaduna State, he graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1986.
