Top music artists in Nigeria have continued to gather more wealth since the introduction of streaming platforms in the entertainment industry.
Asides the wide coverage of numerous audience available to the artists on these platforms, Davido and other Nigerian artists known globally have continued to earn massively as a result of the large audience that stream their music daily.
Davido’s latest album ‘A Better Time’ (ABT) made 100 million streams within three days it was released on all the authorised streaming platforms; Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Deezer, and Tidal streaming platforms.
An analysis of these 100,000,000 streams amount to a whopping sum of about USD642,600 which is equivalent to N298,809,000 (CBN official exchange rate as at November 16, 2020) from an average pay of USD0.006426 on all the authorised streaming platforms.
According to Ditto Music, on every stream ABT got on Apple music, it fetches USD0.00783, on Spotify the amount earned is 0.00437, while on Deezer, YouTube, and Tidal, Davido earns the sum of 0.0064, 0.000069, and 0.01284 respectively. The average cost of a stream ABT album got on any of these platforms is estimated to USD0.006426. Which sums up to USD642,600 on the 100 million streams.
