Social Media has earned this large world a name: “Global Village” a named by Marshall McLuhan. Everyone finds it easy to connect with eachother around the world at the comfort of their room. Thereby making friends and building a cobweb-like connection.
How on Earth does it become a problem to have low number of friends on the socialmedia? Thereby, choosing to beg people (mostly anonymous) to follow them, or accept their friend request on the socialmedia.
I don’t know when we got to that stage but I think there is a reason behind the act. Before I go into details of this discourse, here are some hilarious posts of people begging for followers collated from Twitter:

Personally, I hold an indifferent disposition towards the act, in as much as I find it embarrassing for my personality to do such, however, I think my profession requires alot of followers. But, is it worth it to beg or coerce people on socialmedia to be my friend?

Aminat, a creative Baker says she doesn’t do such, although she believes “upcoming business minded people are right when they beg for followers in order to create awareness for their services.”
Reacting also on the basis of awareness and popularity, Akeukewe Ahmed Abiola a Serving Corps member and Graphics designer writes that “it’s not wrong. I think they do it just to increase traffic on their followership. Meanwhile everyone does it one way or the other, either directly by requesting for it or by implication through rigorous commenting and chats. It however depends on why it is done. So it’s not wrong, it’s only unadvisable…”
Dauda Abdulazeez is of the opinion that “it’s very wrong to make people follow you through begging or persuasion, your characters, good write up and or posts need to convince people to follow you.”
He concluded that, “although, people begged for followers for different reasons, some begged in order to win some prizes while, some begged for fame etc. despite the fact, let people follow you on their own wish not by convincing them.

Adedoyin Aishat; Undergraduate, sees nothing wrong in begging for followers (though she said she doesn’t do such) “if you have to sell or offer a particular service to your followers.” She thinks some beg for followers “so they’d get enough audience and possibly be an influencer.”
Success, Student sees nothing wrong in it also, she says “it is a matter of choice with a reason to have more followers.”
Louisa Nwachukwu, a Medical doctor, sees it as a business strategy where a business owner calls on new customers. In her statement, “it is not wrong if the purpose is for the right course which is basically for people who have online business, YouTuber etc. It seems they do get paid if more people follow them…so it is good they are asking for more customers”
Tanimola Femi, a talented Musician writes that the rightness “depends on the intents of the people; some beg for it because of online businesses, the more the followers, the more the profit they gain. But,anything apart from that is wrong!”

Ummulkhair Tahir Abubakar; Legal practitioner says, It is wrong but people do it “because that’s the only way people can source for followers and gain followers fast on the major social media apps.”
From these opinions, we must agree that every act is guided by a reason or the other. So does the act of begging for followers on the socialmedia has its reasons.
