By Waliu Adeyeri

Sex is sweet and exciting to most people. But for sex workers – ladies who trade pleasure for money – sex is a business with many risks and challenges, which they have to tolerate in their bid to satisfy their clients.

In better position to provide insight into the risk of commercial sex, a whole trader in the business besides the sex workers themselves, will do justice to this.

For this purpose, the Newsbeam engaged an insider in the world of sex workers, who has also severally sourced and mobilised sex workers for sex parties, such as “Get Wet party” and many more.

UNATTRACTIVE CLIENTS

Opening up to the Newsbeam under condition of anonymity, he said one of the challenges of sex workers has to do with unattractive clients or clients that does not fit into their specs.

“They face a lot of challenges, the first challenge faced by some is to pass the time with clients that are unattractive to them. But they have no choice than to satisfy the client.

“Sometimes sex workers waste their resources to meet a client who could be staying at a distant place and eventually they don’t meet the taste of the client. This sometimes leads to the sex worker being underpaid or told to do disgusting sex-tasks,” he said.

CLIENTS ON DRUGS

Speaking further, he identified other challenges faced by commercial sex workers to include clients unwillingness to pay and the risk of being kidnapped, as well as clients on drugs, who stay longer than expected, making sex strenuous for the client and time consuming.

“Some might eventually not be paid for the service. While they also risked being kidnapped.”

“Another challenge they face is dealing with guys on drugs, these drugs often make the guys spend a lot of time on the lady. Going like 7-8 rounds.”

“Some of these ladies cannot be selective and whenever they have to service a client that is not attractive to them. They take hard drugs so that they would be unconscious while working.”

This is one of the major reasons why drug, alcohol and smoke are part and parcel of this profession.

SHADES OF SEX WORKERS

In order to mitigate these challenges, sex working business comes in different forms and services. Our respondent identify 4 types of sex workers that operate in Lagos. “Ashewo, Olosho, Hookup/Runs girl, and Slay Mama.”

“Ashewo are the ones you see in brothels, they can be paid as low as N500 to N1000 for their service. They time their clients based on when he ejaculates.

“Olosho are those that use drugs such as Refnor, Trams and many more in order to be high while serving their client. The minimum they charge is N5000 per session.

“Hookup are the classy ones, they bill their clients N20,000 and above. They even have mobile applications.”

TheNewsBeam team did a background check on the various platforms (mobile applications) used by some sex workers.

On Facebook is “Olosho group” a special e-platform for sex workers to advertise and meet their prospective clients. The bio of the group states: “if you want Olosho, you can tell me and I will help you look for one and if you want sugar mummy tell me but you will pay.”
