Lagos State Indigenous Students Association, and it’s umbrella body, National Union of Lagos State Students have condemned the heinous killing of peaceful protesters at Lekki Toll Gate on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
In a joint statement released through their social media platforms, the body stated that the unfortunate incident is a reflection of the colonial period “when state forces are set up to be anti-people“. Notwithstanding, they called on the state government to take responsibility for the occurrence, investigate properly and bring the truth to fore.
The union also declared support for the protesters and their demands stating that “there is no recommended time to demand for a better leadership and good governance for our dear country, Nigeria”.
They, however, pleaded with “angered” Nigerians to desist from destroying state properties as this could lead to economic ruin. In addition, they noted that the properties “were not built with politicians money” but through taxes from citizens. “We plead with our brothers and sisters who are angered to please de-escalate, retreat to re-strategize and PLEASE put a stop to the destruction of State Properties.”
The Press statement was signed by Nul. Okoya Basirat Bisola, The President, NULASS NATIONAL; Nul. Adeyeri Waliu Olalekan, the Gen.
