The preliminary results of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) NEC Direct Referendum have shown that the 65 days-old ASUP strike may end today.
As directed by the NEC at the emergency meeting held on June 2, 2021. Chapters have begun to send in their referendums on the suspension of the ongoing strike.
Information reaching TheNewsBeam confirms that 14 chapters’ Congress reports across the nation have been sent for collation.
10 Chapters so far have voted for the suspension of the strike while 4 voted for the continuation.
Chapters in support of the suspension of the strike include Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Waziri Umaru Fed. Poly, BK, Kaduna Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Akanu Ibiam Fed. Poly, Uwana.
Others are Federal Polytechnic, Nnekede, Abia State Poly, Aba, Federal Poly, Kaura Namoda, Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The four chapters against the suspension are: Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Federal Polytechnic, Idah, and Yaba College of Technology.
The National Secretariat of the Union is expected to collate and communicate its resolution and final decision to members and the general public today, Wednesday, 9th June, 2021.
