Former South Africa’s president, Jacob Zuma has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court.
Recall that 79-year-old Zuma was forced to step down as president in 2018 over corruption allegations.
Following these allegations, the former president was invited to appear before the constitutional court in January 2021. However, he defied the order by the court.
Zuma, on Tuesday, 29th June, 2021 was found guilty of contempt of court following his refusal to appear before a graft panel, and sentenced to 15 months in prison.
“The Constitutional Court can do nothing but conclude that Mr Zuma is guilty of the crime of contempt of court,”Sisi Khampepe, the judge, said.
