The Kaduna State government has filed fresh charges against the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Recall that TheNewsBeam reported that a High Court sitting in Kaduna on Wednesday, 28 July, 2021 discharged and acquitted the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat Ibrahim.
The leader of the Shiites group was exonerated today, after the judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, ruled that the case was not proven by the prosecutor.
El-Zakzaky and his wife have been standing trial since 2015 on eight counts of charges bordering on alleged homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace.
They have been held in detention since 2015 after a clash occurred between the Shiites group and the military in Kaduna.
However, not satisfied with the ruling, the state government on Thursday filed a fresh seven charges against the IMN leader at the Federal High Court.
