The Police Council has confirmed Usman Alkali Baba as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP).
This is coming almost after two months President Muhammadu Buhari approved his appointment.
The confirmation of Alkali Baba was made on Friday during a meeting presided over by President Buhari in Abuja.
The meeting which was billed to take place last week was postponed to honour the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and ten other military officers who died in a plane crash on May 21.
According to report, the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi confirmed the development in a briefing after the meeting.
He however urged the IGP to justify the confidence reposed on him by reducing the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
The Police Council is composed of the President, Governor of each state, Char of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector General of Police.
The Council is mandated to provide general supervision of the police, to oversee its organisation and administration, and to advise the President on the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police.
