Nasiru Ahmed, a 25-year-old trader, was sentenced to seven strokes of the cane by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for stealing five bags of salt.
Ahmed, a resident of Kaduna State’s Tudun Wada Area, has been charged with shop breaking and theft.

Ahmed was sentenced by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel after pleading guilty and pleading for mercy.
He pleaded with the convict to be good and stop committing crimes.

Earlier, Mr Chidi Leo, the Prosecution Counsel, told the court that Malam Abdulmalik Lateef reported the matter to the Kawo Police Station on February 7.
The defendant, according to Leo, broke into the complainant’s store in Kawo Market Kaduna and stole five bags of salt and two bags of flour.
He claimed that the defendant was apprehended by a security guard at the market after returning to steal more goods from the shop.
The offense, according to Leo, violated sections 333 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code of 2017.
