Nine executives of electricity distributor, Kenya Power (KPLC.NR) have been sued after the country witnessed a nationwide blackout on January 11, 2021.
The officials were made to appear in court on Wednesday for allegedly failing to prevent a fault on the grid that led to the blackout even though power was restored after several hours.
Kenya Power had claimed that outage was due go the collapse of some towers supporting a high voltage line.
Although, the prosecution had requested that the official be detained by the police for 21 days the court permitted that the detention lasts eight days while the Police continue investigating.
