About 10 political parties have been pushing for the postponement of the Lagos LG Polls.
The Local Government elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 24, 2021 might be rescheduled should the court grants the prayers of the political parties.
The parties include:
Alliance of Social Democrats
All Grand Alliance Party,
Change Advocacy Party,
Mega Party of Nigeria,
Progressive People’s Alliance,
Save Nigeria Congress,
We The People’s Nigeria,
Young Democratic Party,
Advanced Congress of Democrats; and
Mass Movement of Nigeria.
The political parties through it counsel, have filed a motion ex parte at the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos to stop the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) from embarking on the July 24 elections.
According to the political parties’ counsel, Adesanmi Afolabi, the parties were unlawfully deregistered from participating in the oncoming Local Government elections despite the Court of Appeal’s order challenging the Federal High Court’s inability to challenge the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision in 2020.
The ruling has been scheduled to July 19, 2021.
