The Managing Director of Nigeria’s Commodity Exchange Commission, Zaheera Baba-Ari, has received stringent backlash from Nigerians for being ignorant of the current prices of basic food commodities.

In a video that have surfaced online, Baba-Ari claimed to have no idea of the prices stating that she only get’s briefed on a weekly basis.

A commodity exchange connects buyers and sellers of physical commodities, a role that is particularly useful in enhancing market efficiency by helping to match supply and demand of commodities across time and geographic distances.

In a panel, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, who is currently representing Ogun West, asked Ali for the prices of beans and soya, and she was unable to give a clear answer.

WATCH VIDEO BELOW:

Nigerians have expressed utter disappointment in these actions by Ali, especially considering the recent hike in prices of food items across the nation.  The video has attracted heavy criticism, see some below:

Na that one weak me pass. Which was the man kept asking her for at least an idea. We know market prices fluctuate on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly basis, but at least tell us what it has been like. She couldn't say anything.

That line…”no one will hold them accountable and sad enough we can do nothing about it”

This is the painful reality

She has a degree in arts and she's heading commodities exchange for goodness sake. This is just stupid

I can bet with my last saving that Dangote will give you a concise close to perfect price range of his pasta

At least there should be a reference point from past records. But then, she should have been at the meeting with the analyst who has the data (assuming they have one)

— αηδrεω (@andray_3) November 12, 2020

I partially agree but the greater truth is most of them (ministers, representatives, senators and governors) are not even aware of what their offices/agencies do or what they represent. #badgovernmentinnigeria #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria
