Airtel, MTN Set To Battle It Out For 5G Network License In Nigeria

MTN Nigeria plc, Mafab Communications Limited have secured the allocation of 100 MHz lots each in the 3.5GHz spectrum for the Fifth Generation (5G) network.

Recall that The News Beam reported that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) confirmed MTN Nigeria plc, Mafab Communications Limited, and Airtel Networks Limited as the approved bidders for the 3.5GHz spectrum auction.

The auction, which took place on Monday, December 13, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, aimed at the deployment of Fifth Generation (5G) Technology by January 2022.

The two operators emerged winners after 11 rounds of bidding in the software-based simulated auction exercise.

A payment of $275,904,886.25 million is to be made between now and February 24, 2022
