MTN Spelling Bee: 12-Year-Old Ademoyegun Crushes 13000 Contestants To Win N2M Scholarship

Akinyele Ademoyegun has emerged as the 2021 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee champ after competing against over 13,000 children across the country.

The 12-year-old SS 1 student from Kaydel Comprehensive College, Ikorodu, Lagos won the contest for spelling correctly “Kernite”, bringing down her competitor Ekene Dondavis Okwuchukwu from Classic comprehensive college, Lagos.

MTN Nigeria’s mPulse spelling bee is among several initiatives designed to promote academic excellence in primary and secondary school students across the country. The contest affords them the opportunity to learn new skills and have fun through healthy competition.

Ademoyegun expressed his excitement after his emergence as the champion. “I would like to thank my parents, siblings, teachers, and even my schools for their support because, without them, I would not be here,” he said.

Among the prizes, Akinyele will be going home with are a laptop,  N2 million scholarship, a smartphone, mPulse goody bags, and Nestle products.

A laptop and cash reward of N350,000 will also be given to his English teacher while his school gets state-of-the-art ICT devices including 10 laptops and 10 Hynet Modems.

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer Adia Sowho congratulated the finalists for reaching the final round. She said, “A great start to building young Nigerians is through education and opportunity. One way to do both is with competitions like the mPulse Spelling Bee. We hope that this event gives our young ones a chance to get comfortable with learning in the digital space as we consistently work to deliver a bold new digital world.”
