21-year-old Chidinma Ojukwu, the suspected killer of Super TV boss, Usifo Ataga, has been remanded in prison for 30 days, following the order by a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos.
The police which had earlier filed for the remand application before the magistrate, Adeola Adedayo, got the approval on Monday, August 9, 2021.
During the hearing for the remand application, the police prosecutor, Cyril Ajifor, told the court that the application was made pursuant to section 264 subsections 1 and 2 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Chidinma appeared before the magistrate alongside a co-defendant in the case, Quadri Adedapo Ajifor, who prayed the Court for the remand of the defendants for the first count.
Representing the first defendant, Babajide Martins, Director of the Office of Public Defender did not oppose the application, as he noted that the remand application is ‘inevitable’, but ordered the prosecution team to make necessary documents available to the defence before being brought before the court.
In the ruling of the magistrate, Adeola granted the remand of the defendants for 30 days and adjourned the matter to September 5 for the review of remand and legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
Recall that Chidinma, a 300-level student of the University of Lagos, was arrested by the police on June 23 for allegedly killing Usifo, her secret lover.
Chidinma initially admitted to stabbing Usifo multiple times while they lodged in an apartment in Lagos state, but later retracted her statement in an interview with the police media team aired by Crime Fighter TV, a police sponsored programme.
She claimed she walked into the room from an errand only to find Ataga stabbed, blood everywhere and the apartment in shambles.
