Nigerians have refuted the claim of the Nigerian Army that many are interested in enlisting for the Nigerian Army (NA) because of the reintroduction of professionalism and improved welfare system.
In a report carried out by The Nigerian News media and shared by the Nigerian Army, “it was observed that part of the reason for the surge in the interest in the Nigerian Army is the reintroduction of professionalism and improved welfare packages for officers and soldiers.”
The report seemingly appears as a rejoinder to a recent exclusive report by Premium Times which highlights that 127 Military Personnel voluntarily exit the Nigerian Army.
At the time of this report, the Nigerian Army (NA) has not flag the report false as it has always been debunking ‘false’ information about the body in recent times.
Following the NA’s reposting of the Nigerian News report on its official social media handle, wide reactions have welcomed the report to refute its observations and conclusions.
According to the report, the 2020 enlistment was oversubscribed by 95%, which is the highest in the past 6 years.
After series of interviews conducted, it was observed that the reintroduction of professionalism and improved welfare system, among other reasons led to the oversubscription.
Many Nigerians have refuted this conclusion, saying that “most people join because of unemployment, others join just to have power to oppress others.”
A close study of the array of reactions that followed the NA’s Twitter post confirms that truly the unemployment rate have made many people apply to join the force.
