The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) commonly known as Cooking Gas decreased by -3.41% year-on-year in December 2020.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment, and vehicles. It is a mixture of 48% propane 50% butane and 2% pentane.
In Nigeria, LPG is speedingly replacing the use of coal, stove and firewood as a means to cook, has it is easier, faster and stress-free to use.
In a report by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), titled ‘Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch’, the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder for LPG increased by 0.12% month-on-month and decreased by -3.41% year-on-year to N1,949.75 in December 2020 from N1,947.47 in November 2020.
According to the report, Bauchi, Borno and Adamawa States recorded the highest average price for the refill of a 5kg cylinder for LPG as the prices were N2,489.12, N2,396.69 and N2,392.88 respectively.
However, Enugu, Imo and Oyo States recorded the lowest average price for the refill of a 5kg cylinder for LPG as the prices were N1,563.75, N1,678.89 and N1,691.67 respectively.
Similarly, the average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG increased by 1.75% month-on-month and decreased by -0.52% year-on-year to N4,082.97 in December 2020 from N4,082.97 in November 2020.
As Highlighted by the report, States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG were Delta (N4,838.46), Cross River/Sokoto (N4,800.00) and Akwa Ibom (N4,614.49).
While, States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG were Kaduna (N3,191.67), Zamfara (N3,462.50) and Niger (N3,500.00).
