Top Nigerian banker and President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has received serious backlash on Twitter for defending former head of state, Yakubu Gowon, over allegations on looting of public funds when he was in power.

Recall that Uk Parliament had debated saction on the Nigerian government and Army over involvement in the allege shooting of #EndSARS protesters on the night of October 20, 2020 at the Lekki Toll Gate Plaza, Lagos.

During this debate, Conservative MP Tom Tugendhat had alleged that Gowon stole half of Nigeria’s Central Bank and kept the loot in London.

Gowon ruled Nigeria from 1966 to 1975, was overthrown while away in Kampala, Uganda attending a summit of the Organisation of African Unity.

Taking to his twitter handle today, Adeshina, faulted the lawmaker’s claim and lauded Yakubu for his “impeccable honesty and integrity”. “Be careful of misinformation” he tweeted.
