The National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) has awarded certificates to the 2019/2020 Batch C stream I corps members for serving the nation for a year.
Though, the Coronavirus pandemic hindered the usual winding-up/parade ceremony. The ceremony was held in line with the Coronavirus directives on Thursday, 15th October, 2020.
In Gusau, Zamfara State, the collection of certificates occured in three centres; the Gusau Zonal Inspector’s Office, Gusau West Local Government office and Gusau East Local Government Office.
The State Coordinator, Na’malam Moh’d Taura, in his farewell speech commended corps members for their selfless service to the socio-economic development of their host communities.
Taura also appreciated corps members resilience, saying “Despite the restriction of the COVID-19 Pandemic, corp members still carried out various community development projects in different locations within the state.”
He advised that corps members should make good use of the skills, knowledge and experience that they acquired in the course of the skill and entrepreneurship training for self-development, while proactively planning a better future for themselves and families.
Some corps members expressed their gratitude to God, NYSC and the members of the community for a successful service year.
A corps member who shared her service year experience explained that she was not happy initially when she got to know that she had to spend a year in a distant state like Zamfara. However, she eventually learnt and unlearnt a lot about the people of Zamfara State which made her enjoy the service year.
Another corps member by name Gbolahan expressed that he would love to spend more time in Zamfara and possibly relocate if he has the opportunity.
Contrarily, a corps member expressed that she doesn’t like it in Zamfara due to the climatic condition which she felt was too harsh for her.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government had confirmed 10th of November 2020 as the date for reopening NYSC Orientation camps across the country.
