NYSC: How To Get A Good PPA Without Connection
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

By: Ayomide Arowobusoye

Place of Primary Assignment, PPA is a major decider of how exciting or otherwise your service year will be.

It is a place where you will be working or sacrificing your time for the entire mandatory one-year period. Aside from the states for the service, great PPAs are also a major prayer point for youth corp members.

Now, the general notion is that to get a good PPA posting you must have a strong ‘connection’ I.e ‘you must know someone that knows someone ‘.

In simpler terms, it means you have to have a strong link with someone influential enough to put your name among those that will serve in great places (like multinational, big secondary schools, ministries, or telecommunication companies).

This connection in many cases will require spending a huge sum of money and to make matters worse, it is never certain.

If you do not have enough money to throw around, then prepare your mind that there are other cheaper and less stressful means to secure a great PPA.

Here are some ways to secure a good PPA posting without connection

Join The OBS: OBS is an abbreviation for Orientation Broadcasting Service. Think OBS, think media. OBS is present in every camp and they are in charge of passing information within the camp. They are also in charge of some camp social activities.

To join in, make sure to arrive at camp on time as the OBS is the most sort after group. Also, prepare your mind for assessment and interviews. This crew is not exclusive to Mass Communication graduates, while they might have an edge, you also can become a member if you meet the requirements.

As a member of the OBS, you can also decide to join in on camp parade, morning drills, etc.

Members of the OBS crew are given preferential treatment in camp and are posted to the states’ capital after the three weeks orientation.

The Camp Clinic: Now, unlike OBS, the clinic is reserved for only graduates of medical-related courses. However, it is another good avenue to be posted to a good PPA. The corp member in the clinic majorly serves as helping hands to the certified doctors in the camp.

Join the Band Group: If you play musical instruments, this might just be the group for you. They provide entertainment for corp members and are very important during camp parades and swearing-in. They end up being posted to the main towns and cities, so they are available to beat the drum during the Independence day parade and on special celebrations in the state.

Join the Quarter Guard: These are a set of Corps Members that are trained to mount the quarter guard chamber. They begin training the very first-day camp opens and their first work is usually on the swearing-in day.

Join a Religious Group: You should also try to join one of the NYSC recognized religious groups like the Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN), National Association of Catholic Corpers (NACC), Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF).
