– DPR Ranks oil and gas industry above average
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has said that Nigeria’s oil and gas industry performed above global average in their areas of operations in the country despite Covid-19 Pandemic.
The agency disclosed this in its latest circular to oil and gas industry operators and industry service providers at the weekend. This circular titled “RE: Management of COVID-19 Outbreak – Update 5” was made available to journalists by Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Paul Osu.
The DPR explained that the relative success was the result of the collective sacrifices of industry stakeholders in implementing enhanced measures of the recent circulars issued in line with the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The department said by the same token, it was continually monitoring key indices across the industry vis-à-vis national outlook and regional/ global spread of the deadly virus.
The agency, however, stated that it was imperative to reiterate that the collaboration of both industry unions -the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) were crucial in the continued implementation of the modified rotation schedule and other measures, especially in the face of resurgence of the virus in many parts of the world.
