Efforts to address the rising incidence of oil pipeline vandalism received a boost as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command said it impounded 64 sacks containing 7,600 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), during an operation at Isalu creeks, Badagry area of Lagos state.
NSCDC Lagos State Commandant Eweka Okoro disclosed this in a statement stressing that the operation adding that the operation reflects the commitment of the agency towards eradicating oil pipeline vandalism amidst the forthcoming Easter celebration in the state.
He said, “The suspected products were estimated at about Seven Thousand, Six Hundred litres (7,600ltrs) of PMS. What is more important here, is the act of sabotage, which will never be allowed to thrive in the state, in line with our mandate, no matter the quantity of products attempted to be vandalised by the untoward saboteurs.’’
Okoro explained that the operation took place at about midnight was carried out by the Marine and Anti – vandal Team of the Badagry Division, of the Command led by Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC ), Akinyemi Ayodeji after a tip off,
While preliminary investigation has commenced into the matter, the Commandant also directed the Anti – vandal unit of the Command to evacuate the suspected products back to the Lagos State Command.
According to him, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation ( NNPC ) in the state will also be contacted for proper evacuation of the products because of the highly inflammable nature of it.
He stated further that the Command’s readiness and commitment towards eradicating oil pipeline vandalism amidst the forthcoming Easter celebration in the state assures the good people of Lagos and the government of his unflinching commitment towards eradicating oil pipeline vandalism and every form of economic sabotage in the state.
