Bandits have been reported to have abducted an unconfirmed number of worshippers gathered at a mosque to observe Tahajjud (a midnight prayer) in Jibiya, Katsina State on Monday.
Sources said the bandits, came in their numbers and invaded the mosque around 2am.
Some of the residents said they had been earlier alerted about possible attacks, after sighting movement of suspected bandits around the town.
Sources also made it known that some youth and vigilante group in the town had prepared to engage the bandits.
However, the bandits were said to have used a different route to enter the town.
When contacted, Gambo Isah, police spokesperson in the State, said some of the persons abducted have escaped.
He however was unable to give the exact number of worshippers in captivity.
