Senate Reintroduces Electoral Acts Bill, Approves Indirect Primaries

The National Assembly has reintroduced and passed the Electoral Act amendment bill.

The bill now includes the indirect mode of conducting primaries for political parties to select candidates for elective offices.

The National Assembly, had earlier passed the bill, emphasizing that political parties use only a direct mode of primary elections.

When submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent in December 2021, the bill was rejected the bill.

Buhari made his reservations on Clause 87 which states the mode of election.
