Seven Foods That Help Detoxify Your Body

Detoxification refers to the removal of toxic wastes from the body. The human body has various kinds of toxins developed within the body system.

Body toxins are formed depending on what we consume, and the type of lifestyles we live. It is crucial to detox our bodies every once in a while so that harmful toxins get flushed out.

The major importance of detoxification is that it helps improve our metabolic functions and prevents ailments. One of the easiest ways to detox is to eat natural foods in our diet.

Here is a list of 7 natural foods that detox your body:

1. Turmeric
Tumeric is one of the best natural ingredients we have in our household. It has long been known to have powerful medicinal properties due to its high content of nutrients, anti-oxidants and offers anti-inflammatory properties. Also beneficial for fighting kidney disease and those pesky stones.

2. Leafy Greens and Vegetables.
Leafy greens are packed full of Vitamin C and K, along with great folate. They also reduce your blood pressure, balance out your blood sugars, and reduce kidney stress. The best part is, there are many things you can do to make them attractive in your diet. These vegetables that are best eaten raw are also the best ones to consume for flushing toxins from your body.

Vegetables like cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts are great for helping the liver suppress and remove toxins during cleansing. These vegetables are usually consumed cooked but it is much preferable to eat them raw because according to studies, once these vegetables are cooked, they lost a lot of their nutritional content.

However, the great thing about these vegetables is that they contain high levels of naturally occurring sulfur, a chemical that helps the liver get rid of the toxins during cleansing. Some great sources of nutrients for the body that also contains high levels of sulfur are kale, spinach, beet, oregano and carrots.

3. Cranberry Juice and Blueberries
Cranberry juice can be beneficial for urinary tract infections. However, it can offer your kidneys to function properly. Drinking cranberry juice can cleanse your kidneys of one of the leading causes of kidney stones – calcium oxalate. Although, it’s essential to choose organic or additive-free cranberry juice. The purer, the better.

Blueberries also are very high in antioxidants and have antiviral properties to help prevent infections. Blueberries also help decrease inflammation in the body, help protect your cells from free radical movement, and are full of and vitamin-C. As a bonus, blueberries are low in calories and majorly delicious.

4. Apples
Apples are known to be rich in vitamins, fibre and minerals. They are also rich in phytochemicals and pectin, which all help in detoxification. Pectin flushes out food additives and metals in our body.

Whole apples are high in both soluble and insoluble fibre. The soluble pectin fibre found in apples soaks up toxins in the body and helps move them easily through the intestines. So adding apples, even just one per day can help general body detoxification.

Apples are also low-glycemic which means they are absorbed slowly and don’t cause spikes in blood sugar which can affect your mood, hunger levels, energy, etc.

5. Garlic

Using garlic for detoxifying the body is also an ancient practice, though it’s not actually possible to speed up the rate of the natural body detoxification done by your liver and kidneys. While garlic may not actually flush out toxins, it does offer health benefits. Garlic contains high amounts of vitamin C, which supports your immune system and your liver.

It also contains antioxidants, which help fight the free radicals in your bloodstream that are responsible for some of the effects of ageing, as well as being linked to certain kinds of cancer and heart disease.

6. Ginger

Ginger is rich in phytochemicals — the healthy compounds found in plants — many people use ginger as a gastrointestinal aid. It has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes and as a healing agent. Ginger helps to improve liver function (which is the main organ for detoxification).

Likewise, ginger helps flush out toxins from the blood and lymph, increases your metabolism and fights disease.

Just to specify, it improves detoxification by speeding up the movement of food through the intestines and reducing inflammation in the body. Since the intestines perform so much detoxification work, ginger can help boost your body’s ability to process food and eliminate body waste.

7. Lemon
Scientifically, lemons can protect liver function and prevent oxidative damage. Daily lemon ingestion- combined with simple workout -helps regulate blood pressure. Many people choose to consume lemon water to get their fill. All you need to do is squeeze an organic lemon into a glass of water.

Lemons or any citrus fruit help detox the body system. Citrus fruits are sources of vitamin C. Lemon is a valid source for cleansing, and also helps with gastric problems. Although studies have shown that lemons are ineffective in detoxification when taken with ‘warm’ water.
