A Nigerian soldier, identified as James Matol, has been accused of killing his girlfriend, Ugadu Jennifer, a 200-level student of the Faculty of Education at the Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, for allegedly cheating on him.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday titled, ‘Death of a university undergraduate at Amassoma’, by the spokesperson for the command, Asinim Butswat.

According to reports, Jennifer, aged 23 was found dead on Sunday, June 11, 2021 in her apartment with multiple stab injuries and bullet wounds on her body. She was found dead days after she was killed, as her body was already decomposing.

The deceased was also reported to have been shot in the back, after a fierce struggle with her killer, who also cut off her finger, before leaving her in the pool of her own blood.

The reports also claimed that police operatives confirmed that the bullets found on her were not local bullets.

It was gathered that a close friend of the deceased disclosed that her boyfriend, James, has been abusing her over allegations of cheating.

James was also said to have used her phone to confessed to the crime and threatened to commit suicide in her department’s WhatsApp group.

It was also reported that the Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, had ordered an investigation into the incident.
