The super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday at the “Siaka Steven” stadium in Freetown Sierra Leone managed to pick a point against the “leone Stars” of Sierra leone.
Earlier on Friday the Leone stars had forced the eagles to a 4-4 draw at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin. Tuesday draw means the Eagles stays top of Group L with 8 points, Benin republic follows closely with 7 points with Sierra Leone and Lesotho occupying the third and fourth spots respectively.
While countries Like Senegal, Mail, Tunisia and champions Algeria have qualified for the competition, Nigeria along side black stars of Ghana will have to wait to fight another day.
While some school of thoughts have questioned Rohr’s technical and tactical approach to games, many have criticized the coach for the non inclusion of the home base payers in his set up of the eagles, and some have also called for the sack of the coach, others have argued that sacking Rohr would cost the NFF a lot of money which the glass house cannot handle at a time like this.
What seem to worry some Nigerian football lovers is the fact that Coach Rohr has struggled with games in this group believed to be one of the easiest group of this qualifying series which consist of Benin Republic, Sierra Leone, Lesotho and Nigeria. going by the October 2020 Fifa ranking, Nigeria is ranked 4th, Benin republic is ranked 16th while Sierra Leone and Lesotho are ranked 30th and 38th respectively.
Nigerians have now resulted to permutation and calculation en route the road to qualifying for the biggest football showdown on the African Continent.
