Japanese Tennis star, Naomi Osaka, on Friday, lit the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Flames.
This follows the opening declaration of the event made by Japan’s Emperor Naruhito.
The torch was brought into the stadium by the Japanese former freestyle wrestler Saori Yoshida and former judoka Tadahiro Nomura.
The torch was passed on to the former Japan baseball players Hideki Matsui, Nagashima Shigeru and Ou Sadaharu, and it then went to a doctor and nurse.
Naomi Osaka got the torch and had the honour to walk up the steps to light the Olympic cauldron.
The opening ceremony of the Olympic games was filled with fun fair despite holding before a few spectators in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.
The games begin in earnest on Saturday.
