Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKDC) has announced that they are not responsible for the distribution of power to Lekki Toll gate.
There were reports that lights were switched off few hours before unarmed protesters were gunned down by soldiers at the Lekki Tollgate on Tuesday, 20 October, 2020. This incident had made many hands to be pointed in the direction of the power distribution company EKDC.
However, EKDC on their news page yesterday, declared that Toll Gate independently generates it’s own power supply.
“We will like to RESPECTFULLY and CATEGORICALLY STATE THAT EKEDC DOES NOT HANDLE POWER SUPPLY TO THE LEKKI TOLL GATE and the Toll Gate independently generates their own power supply through IPPs. The rest of the Lekki area supplied by EKEDC had power supply from us throughout the night save for any areas where there were technical faults.”, the statement read.
EKDC also expressed their sadness over the incidence. “We are extremely saddened by the turn of events yesterday and we stand with all well meaning Nigerians who want a better future for our dear nation.”
Nigerians are hereby advised to remain calm as necessary actions are being taken to ensure that the people is safe and spreading of fake news should be avoided so as to allow peace to reign.
