The Federal Government has stated the condition for lifting its indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed the condition in a meeting with some of the top envoys of various Diplomatic Missions in Nigeria.
In the meeting, the minister indicated that no definite timeline would be given, but noted that the condition for lifting Twitter’s ban is the social media “being responsible”.
“The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that really has to be it.” Onyeama stated.
“We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing; why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities,” he also said.
Recall that Twitter was suspended indefinitely by the Federal Government on Friday, 4th of June 2021 following the deletion of one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweets earlier that week.
