The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed that the ban placed on Twitter may soon be lifted, as some of the issues it raised concerning the social media platform has been resolved.
Disclosing this is the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, during his interview with the State House correspondents while responding to questions on the issue on Wednesday.
According to the minister, most of the conditions given to the social media platform have been accepted, revealing that Twitter also agreed to set up an office in Nigeria.
He however noted that the company maintained that the earliest it can set up an office in Nigeria is in 2022.
The minister expressed confidence that everything will be sorted out with Twitter within a few days or weeks, adding that the federal government’s committee negotiating with Twitter will soon meet to make recommendations.
Recall that the Federal Government on June 4, 2021 announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operation in Nigeria, stating the reason for the suspension as “persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
